Permit Information

Permit Fee Increases
on January 1, 2011

Fees will increase for most 2011 Seattle Fire Department permits and certification examinations.  The average increase for most permits and certifications is 10% - 15%.

Customers with annual permits expiring in January, 2011, will be given an extra month to make payment without incurring a late fee.  Your permit renewal invoice will reflect the additional time granted to submit payment for expiring permits.

The Seattle Fire Department administers fire and life safety regulations for all properties within the Seattle city limits.  Permits must be obtained from the Fire Department for special events, public assembly occupancies, storage or use of hazardous materials, hazardous operations such as hot work and spray finishing, storage of high-piled combustible materials and a wide variety of other activities where a fire or life safety hazard may exist.

This section is designed to assist you in determining whether or not a fire permit is required for your operation and to guide you through the application and inspection process when a permit is needed.
