9 Sculptured Soldiers in Magnuson ParkMore Mysterious Art in Seattle's Magnuson Park

Nine life-sized sculptures of soldiers appeared over the weekend at Sand Point Magnuson Park. In the center of the statues, a silver soldier stands saluting eight darker soldiers.

City of Seattle Parks and Recreation officials will allow the art to remain until March 1, when the weather starts turning and kite fliers begin frequenting the hill. The artwork could come down earlier if it becomes a maintenance or safety issue, Friedli said.

A millennium monolith appeared January 1st 2001 at the top of Kite Hill at Sand Point Magnuson Park. On January 4th it mysteriously moved to Duck Island in Green Lake. On Friday the 5th our staff worked with the artists' group to retrieve it from Duck Island (they say they had no idea who moved it to Duck Island) and put it safely in storage at Sand Point Magnuson Park.
