Connecting Seattle Government and Communities

Here are the many ways in which the Neighborhood District Coordinators play a significant role:

Encourage and support civic participation:

  • Steward new projects in a community
  • Access city funds to support community development
  • Provide technical assistance to Neighborhood Matching Fund projects
  • Provide ongoing leadership at local community or neighborhood councils
  • Staff a network of councils that advise the City in various ways
  • Facilitate application processes for parks or street improvements
  • Involve community members in the neighborhood planning efforts

Act as liaisons between the City and community:

  • Liaise between community members, community organizations, the private sector and City officials
  • Advise individual community members, businesses and groups, interpreting and responding to City programs, policies, and services
  • Act as a main point of contact for community members who have questions about City programs and services and for City staff working on a project that will impact a neighborhood

Coordinate events and tours that bring government closer to the community:

  • Provide an opportunity for elected officials to get firsthand knowledge of community issues
  • Coordinate the Mayor’s neighborhood visits
