Connecting Seattle Government and Communities
Here are the many ways in which the Neighborhood District Coordinators play a significant role:
Encourage and support civic participation:
- Steward new projects in a community
- Access city funds to support community development
- Provide technical assistance to Neighborhood Matching Fund projects
- Provide ongoing leadership at local community or neighborhood councils
- Staff a network of councils that advise the City in various ways
- Facilitate application processes for parks or street improvements
- Involve community members in the neighborhood planning efforts
Act as liaisons between the City and community:
- Liaise between community members, community organizations, the private sector and City officials
- Advise individual community members, businesses and groups, interpreting and responding to City programs, policies, and services
- Act as a main point of contact for community members who have questions about City programs and services and for City staff working on a project that will impact a neighborhood
Coordinate events and tours that bring government closer to the community:
- Provide an opportunity for elected officials to get firsthand knowledge of community issues
- Coordinate the Mayor’s neighborhood visits
