Each year, Seattle Youth Commissioners prepare policy recommendations for the Mayor and the City Council that address the five issues most frequently heard in the Youth Community Meetings.
Youth Commissioners are divided into five groups. Each group is paired with a Policy Aide from a City Department who specialized in one of the selected issues. Policy groups have 8-10 weeks to research, explore solutions and prepare a policy recommendation for the Mayor and the City Council.
This is a very demanding, but rewarding, process that requires groups to identify similar or past programs that have been funded, as well as estimate all financial requirements for its implementation.

Tracking: This proposal was funded by City Council in late 2009. Department of Neighborhoods is currently in the process of implementing this policy.
Tracking: This proposal became the foundation for the Art4Justice project, which was funded by Neighborhood Matching Fund in January of 2010.
Tracking: In response to this proposal, the Parks Dept. has re-prioritized their Strategic Action Plan to place more importance on the maintenance of Teen Advisory Councils.
Tracking: The research done by the 2008-09 Policy group has contributed to a stronger 2009-10 Youth Police Policy Proposal.

Summary: The Youth-Police Policy Group is recommending a series of Youth-Police Role Reversal Workshops strategically placed throughout Seattle which will be carried out by ten youth interns placed in Seattle's five precincts. (Pilot Program)
