Fremont Bike Lanes

Coming this summer: Bicycle lanes on Fremont Avenue N
Revised: June 27, 2005

Bicyclists will soon enjoy new bicycle lanes on each side of Fremont Avenue North, from North 36th Street to North 42nd Street. SDOT's crews will install the lane stripes and markings this summer, and will coordinate with other improvements the City will be making in the neighborhood.

The bike lanes will not affect the quantity of parking, the amount of motor vehicle traffic that can use Fremont Avenue, or the way the street operates, aside from the bike lanes.

This project has had long-time support from the Fremont Neighborhood Council. The new lanes will provide better connections for bicyclists traveling along Fremont Avenue to the following:

**Burke Gilman Trail
**Ship Canal Trail
**Dexter Avenue bike lanes
**N 50th Street bike lanes
**Phinney Avenue bike lanes

Seattle is known as one of the best cities in the nation for cycling, and the Fremont neighborhood has one of the highest concentrations of bicyclists in the city. These bike lanes, as part of the City’s growing Urban Trails system, will make it even easier to get around Seattle, helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
