City Light is committed to serving our communities beyond delivering clean, safe, and reliable carbon-neutral power. We educate and engage customers, partners, and others in the work of clean energy and environmental stewardship through tours of our hydroelectric facilities and elementary and middle school curriculum.
From learning about where your power comes from to how we all can protect the environment, you can play an active role in our environmental sustainability story.
Tours and Recreation
City Light owns and operates several hydroelectric facilities, including Gorge, Diablo, and Ross Dams located on the Skagit River, and Boundary Dam located on the Pend Oreille River. These dams deliver about 50% of our clean, carbon-free energy and provide protected natural habitats for the area’s wildlife and fish populations.
Get to know your power up close with tours that provide a behind-the-scenes look at how clean, affordable power is generated and delivered to you, as well as recreational opportunities to explore and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Educational Programs
Our operating license with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for our Skagit Project includes funding for public education and facilities. We're proud to support the North Cascades Institute and the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center - connecting people, nature and community through hands-on study of the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest.
Visit the North Cascades Institute.
We also host Energy Heroes workshops that teach students about important topics in energy conservation, electrical safety, renewable energy and power systems in schools throughout our service area. We also offer free educational tours of our historic Georgetown Steam Plant.
