My Car Got Booted

Vehicles with four or more unpaid parking tickets in collections are tracked on a “scofflaw list.” These vehicles can be immobilized using a wheel-locking device or "boot" if they are parked legally or illegally on the streets of Seattle.

Seattle Parking Enforcement Officers patrol city streets and use license plate recognition technology. When they find a vehicle on the scofflaw list, officers will immobilize the vehicle with a boot and place a notice on the windshield.

If your vehicle is booted, you have 48 hours, excluding weekends, to pay your outstanding tickets and the boot fee or set up a payment plan. After 48 hours, the Seattle Department of Transportation will tow and impound your vehicle. After 15 days in impound, your vehicle may be auctioned.

Boot Return

Once you have paid the tickets or set up a payment plan, the boot company will provide you a code to release the boot.

Return the boot to one of the below locations within two calendar days of its release. After two days, the boot company will charge you a $25 per day fine.

If you damage or lose the boot, the boot company will charge you $500 to replace it.
