Professional Development

Quality Practice & Professional Development

The Department of Education and Early Learning provides professional development to City of Seattle contracted providers. Professional development includes coaching, training workshops, seminars, and technical assistance.

DEEL coaches use an Instructional Coaching approach to provide intensive, intentional, and reflective coaching to classroom-based staff. The coaches use the lenses of equity and cultural responsiveness to understand the professional development and specific needs of all instructional staff in the classroom.

Coaches also provide guidance and training to directors, site supervisors, and other key personnel.

Training is centered in racial justice and equity, and available in the following areas:

  • Content (Race & Social Justice, Anti-Bias Education, Social-Emotional Learning)
  • Curriculum (Soy Bilingüe, HighScope, Creative Curriculum)
  • Assessment (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, CLASS, all Environmental Rating Scales)
  • Health & Safety
