Portrait of Acting Director Tanya KimAs the Acting Director of the Seattle Human Services Department (HSD), Tanya Kim leads nearly 400 staff who make HSD's role as as a funder, direct service provider, and convener possible.

Our employees are organized into five divisions:

  1. Aging and Disability Services (ADS)
  2. Homelessness Strategy and Investment (HSI)
  3. Leadership and Administration Division (LAD)
  4. Safe and Thriving Communities (STC)
  5. Youth and Family Empowerment (YFE)

Each grouping of staff is designed to work in partnership with providers and stakeholders throughout the community on a specific issue area to effectively steward public dollars. We accomplish this together by investing in strategies, programs, and services that work for the community, promote innovation in service delivery, and advance racial equity.

Tanya's Bio

Tanya has held various positions throughout her eleven-year tenure with HSD. She served with the Seattle Youth Employment Program team staff and in progressively challenging and impactful leadership roles, including her most recent role as a deputy director of the department. Before joining the department, she worked at community-based organizations in both direct service and executive level positions.

Tanya has been a bold and relentless champion for Seattle youth and their families, and HSD is lucky to have her tremendous work ethic, tenacity, and visionary leadership steering us through some significant change and transition as we sunset the HSI Division and continue to build up the Safe and Thriving Communities Division.
