South Lake Union Community Center

Updated: April 5, 2022

Spring 2022

Seattle Parks and Recreation is excited to continue our planning for a new community center in the South Lake Union neighborhood with our Schematic Design Report, originally introduced as our third online open house in June 2021. The Schematic Design Report provides an opportunity to:
   •  Learn more about the center design, floor plan and programming.
   •  Learn more about what we heard from the community during earlier outreach and how public input helped shape the center.

Visit the South Lake Union Community Center Schematic Design Report website at: slucc.infocommunity.org

Thank you to everyone who attended our previous public outreach events and for feedback you provided. You can view the March 16 online meeting video here. And you can find additional information at: slucc.infocommunity.org and summary documents of the online events below.

To better serve a diverse and rapidly growing community, Seattle Parks and Recreation will open a new community center in the South Lake Union neighborhood that we are currently calling the South Lake Union Community Center. It will be a private-public partnership project as the Community Center will be located within a private development project but operated by Seattle Parks and Recreation.

The new facility will house spaces for activities such as fitness, art, and rooms for classes and events as well as a childcare service for young families.

Location

Corner of Mercer Street and Dexter Avenue North

Budget

The planning, design and interior buildout of the community center space is estimated to cost $9-$12M; planning and design are funded, construction funding has not yet been identified.

Schedule

Analysis/Preliminary Design: December 2020 - February 2021
Schematic Design: February - April 2021
Construction: TBD
