South Park Plaza Landbanked Site Park Development

Updated: October 7, 2021

Fall 2021

Please join Seattle Parks and Recreation and other members of the community at two meetings. The October 12 meeting will focus on themes, colors, and cultures for South Park Plaza and the October 16 meeting will focus on elements and infrastructure needs for events at the Plaza. Both events are located at the Plaza, next to the South Park Bridge. These events are opportunities to offer creative ideas on how to integrate the cultures of South Park into your new park.

The schematic design survey has closed, and the design team is reviewing the results. We are now onto developing Design Development (DD) plans, working with focus groups on plaza uses and users, defining cultural elements. We anticipate Design Development to be completed in October. In addition, we have initiated permitting with King County.
Note: the South Park Plaza site is being used for a variety of activation events and vendor markets until we move into bidding and design.

The planning and design team thanks everyone who participated in the public process for this park. We have gathered input from the November 2019 meeting and three online surveys to prepare the schematic design.

We are finalizing the design which includes an open lawn, primary event space, play elements, seating terraces, accessible pathways, bio-swales, irrigation and landscape improvements. This project is also collaborating with SDOT on South Dallas Street, and 14th Avenue South bridge and South Orr Street accessibility, and circulation improvements for pedestrians and vehicles at this important open space connection between South Park's Business District and the river.
