The Specialized Programs section of Seattle Parks and Recreation provides a variety of engaging and exciting recreation opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. 

2021 Summer Day Camps

Starting in July, Specialized Programs will be offering day camps for youth and adults with disabilities.

5 weeks of Youth Camp for youth ages 6 - 21, and 5 weeks for Adults ages 22 and older. 

Space will be limited to maintain safety requirements.

Time/Days: 10 am - 1 pm, Mondays - Thursdays, except weeks with Monday holidays.

Locations: John C. Little Park (SE Seattle), Ravenna Park, Shelter 1 (NE Seattle)

Registration: Will be by lottery. Registration Form and Camper Forms (included in the Summer Brochure) must be received by May 28. We hope to be able to provide everyone with at least 1 week of camp. Notifications will be sent by June 11 to confirm your camp week(s). DDA and Scholarship funds can be used if available.

Weekly Drop In Programs

These are drop in social programs for Specialized Program participants of all ages, via phone or WebEx online. No registration is required for these free programs. Call in numbers and access codes will be shared in late December in our newsletter and on our Facebook page. Want to use your camera and participate online? Rise & Shine Line: Mondays, March 22 - June 14, no programs May 31. A free flow conversation led by participants with staff available to assist as needed.

Chatline: Tuesdays, March 23 - June 15. Staff will provide structured questions for the group and facilitate a conversation. Designed to provide a space to socialize and have conversations with peers. 

Rec Round Ups: Thursdays, March 25 - June 17.  Structured group games and activities led by staff.  A Facebook Live recording of this program will be available to watch on our Facebook Page. Staff support is available for both programs. For information on how to join, email: PKS_Specialized_Programs@seattle.gov   

Other Online Programs

Wellness Wednesdays: This is a new online program for Teens and Young Adults ages 13-30 with disabilities. Participants must have access to a device with a camera to participate. Activities will include games, crafts, projects and more all based around domains of wellness. This program will be offered every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30pm on WebEx. To register, email: PKS_Specialized_Programs@seattle.gov  

Quarterly Rec 2 Go Kits Each quarter we will be featuring a new Rec 2 Go kit with supplies to recreate at home independently or along with our Virtual Programs for that quarter. Kits cost $10. Contact the Specialized Programs Office to check on availability.

Monthly Special Events

Flix & Friends: An online event for all ages. Each quarter we will base our activities around a new movie - this quarter is THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2. Flix and Friends Activity Packets will be in our Spring Rec 2 Go kits and will be available for download on our Facebook page in early April. The movie will not be shown at the event. Join these events online or by phone.

Friday Night Socials: An online event for Youth and Young Adults ages 4-30. Come see your friends, play games, and engage in other staff facilitated activities. Join these events online or by phone.

In non-pandemic years, the Specialized Programs unit of Seattle Parks and Recreation offers year-round activities for people with disabilities. The purpose is to provide recreational opportunities for individuals who may choose to participate in activities specifically designed and conducted by trained staff to best meet their needs. We offer:

  • Special Olympics Sports of all kinds
  • Wheelchair basketball teams
  • Weekend trips
  • After school programs
  • Classes, such as: cooking, dance, pottery, and drama
  • Extensive camping program during the summer
  • Adult day programs
  • Evening socials

The programs are particularly suited to people with a range of cognitive and physical disabilities . The Specialized Programs staff will also work with individuals or family members who would prefer to integrate into other Department programs but need some type of accommodation such as an interpreter.

Seattle Adaptive Sports

Seattle Parks and Recreation Specialized Programs is proud to partner with Seattle Adaptive Sports.

Seattle Adaptive Sports' mission is to enable people with disabilities to push beyond their limits and realize their full potential, using adaptive sports as a vehicle for personal growth.
