Permit Counter Temporary Closures

To protect the health and safety of our staff and customers, and to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19, we closed our public-facing customer service counters on Monday, March 16, 2020. Our counters remain closed until further notice. This includes both the Street Use and the Traffic and Parking permit counters at the Seattle Municipal Tower on floors 23 and 37. We are still processing permit applications.

You can submit applications for all permit types online through the Seattle Services Portal.

Our staff will be available to provide application coaching and assist with issuing permits by phone or e-mail. Learn more about how on-street parking is being managed at this time.

Temporary No Parking Zones are established to restrict regular parking and provide curb space for purposes such as construction activity (which may require a Street Use permit), moving vans, or to clear a street for special events like a parade. The restricted area is not to be used for parking of personal vehicles. Any valid on-street parking space, whether paid or unpaid, may be considered for use as a Temporary No Parking Zone. 

You may not reserve already-restricted parking zones such as Carshare, Carpool, Food Vending, Truck Only, Passenger Load, or other Load/Unload Only zones. In special cases, or if there are no other options, you may contact the Traffic Permit Counter at trafficpermitsinfo@seattle.gov or call (206) 684-5086 to make arrangements to relocate the affected zones to a nearby location. How to reserve a paid parking space (on blockface controlled by a parking pay station)

How much does it cost?

  • $16.00 per truck permit for up to 2 days, 3rd and any additional days $8.00 per day per permit
  • $18.50 labor charge for installation and removal of No-Parking Signs at metered spaces
  • Lost Revenue per metered space per day
    • $22.00 in Downtown for "Yellow" (No Parking, 7 AM - 6 PM, Monday - Saturday)
    • $17.00 outside Downtown for "Yellow" (No Parking, 7 AM - 6 PM, Monday - Saturday)
    • $27.00 in Downtown for "Red" (24-hr TOW AWAY Zone)
    • $20.00 outside Downtown for "Red" (24-hr TOW AWAY Zone)

To Reserve an Non-Paid Parking Space (without a Pay Station)

  1. Arrange for 'No Parking' Easels
    1. Contact a barricade company (use search term "barricades Seattle") to arrange for "No Parking" easels to be placed three days in advance of the date(s) the zone is needed. The barricade company will charge a fee for their service. For the signs to be valid, you must write the dates and times for the temporary no parking zone in the "from" and "to" areas on the sign. Because the signs are reusable you'll need to use a non-permanent ink marker or grease pencil.

  2. Apply Online
    1. Once the Temporary No Parking signs are in place, you will need to apply online. You may need to register on the Seattle Services Portal and create an account. Once you log in choose "Permits - Parking & Truck" > "Temporary No Parking Zone" > "Temporary No Parking Zone (unpaid area)". This will generate the public notice which must be attached to at least two barricade signs per block.
  3. A printed Public Notice must be placed on at least two signs per block prior to the temporary no parking zone going into effect. Once you've completed the application you will receive an email with instructions for printing the public notice. You must have access to a printer at the time of completion as you will need to print the public notice. For the Temporary No Parking Zone to be enforceable, the sign must have both the public notice attached and the dates and times for the Temporary No Parking Zone written on at least two signs per block. The Public Notice should be attached to the upper right-hand corner of the sign, preferably with a plastic sleeve and binder clips as shown in this photo:

    The No-Parking easels, including the printed public notice, should be placed 72 hours in advance. However, Parking Enforcement only requires a 24 hour notice in order to enforce the No-Parking area.
  4. If you are using a moving or storage container, please see the requirements for leaving the container in the street.
