Spot Sewer Repairs Project
Project description
The Spot Sewer Repairs Project aims to repair pipes at 58 priority locations across Seattle. By fixing these deteriorating or damaged pipes, we can help keep our sewer system functioning smoothly and efficiently for many more years.
We want to hear from you!
The project team needs your help identifying utility issues in your neighborhood! Please contact us if you have utility concerns, are aware of a history of utility issues in your area, or have other feedback. Even if you have previously contacted Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), we encourage you to connect with this project team. This ensures we receive updated information and provides an opportunity to meet you! Your feedback will play a crucial role in designing construction plans.
Locations
The Spot Sewer Repairs Project involves 58 repair locations along existing sewer systems owned and maintained by SPU. The repairs are all within the City of Seattle and were identified by SPU through prior work orders over several years. Sites are prioritized based on location, impact, effort, and ongoing work in the area.
For approximate locations of the project sites, please visit the Spot Sewer Repairs Map.
What’s happening now?
Our project engineers and team members are conducting initial site visits in the project areas. These visits will help SPU gather important information about the area, begin designing sewer repairs, and coordinate with field investigation and survey crews in the upcoming months. The project schedule will span several years.
Field crews will investigate soil and groundwater conditions around the existing sewer pipes at some locations. This may involve drilling and other construction activities. Once drilling is completed, field crews will restore the ground to its near-original condition. The findings from these tests will be used to design future sewer repair work over the next few years.
Community benefits
Repairing deteriorating or damaged pipes allows the sewer system to function smoothly and efficiently. Some benefits of this project include:
- Improving sewer system reliability
- Reducing sewer disruptions
- Reducing environmental impacts on the neighborhood ecosystem
- Protecting Puget Sound and our local bodies of water
- Protecting public health and safety
Anticipated construction impacts
While sewer pipe repairs are not expected to begin for a few years, crews may use drilling equipment to investigate soil and groundwater conditions.
You can expect noise, dust, vibration, parking restrictions, and large equipment during construction. Roads, lanes, and sidewalks may be closed, reduced, or detoured where necessary. Businesses and residents will be notified of any driveway closures in advance. Business access will be maintained.
